Hervey Bay Kindergarten proudly embeds a Playwork Approach across all aspects of our program.

Under the leadership of Renae Powell — an experienced Playworker and passionate advocate for children’s rights — we create environments where play is respected, celebrated, and protected. Our practice honours children’s agency, fosters resilience, and supports holistic development through open-ended, child-initiated experiences.
Our Playwork Approach is woven into daily life, guided by deep expertise and advocacy. From loose parts to pop-up playgrounds, we create spaces where children lead the way—exploring, imagining, and growing in a community that values joy, freedom, and belonging. Three children are playing with water, saucepans and other utensils in the bush. They are wearing long sleeve shirts and wide brim hats

We believe every child deserves a play-filled childhood.

Two children are building a structure out of milk crates We believe that strong relationships build strong communities. We’re proud to collaborate with local schools and organisations who share our commitment to children’s wellbeing and learning. Our partnerships with Howard State School, Pialba State School, and Connected Beginnings are just a few examples of how we work together to support children and families across the Fraser Coast.

These collaborations allow us to:

✱ Strengthen transitions between early learning and school

✱ Celebrate cultural connection and inclusion

✱ Co-design experiences that reflect community needs

✱ Activate a Playwork Approach to learning across diverse settings

Together, we’re creating a more connected, playful, and empowered future for every child.

“Offering choice is one of the ways we demonstrate respect for children as competent people. Making appropriate choices encourages them to be decision-makers and problem solvers, helps to foster a sense of autonomy, agency, and healthy control in their world.” — Janet Lansbury
