Where childhood is wild, joyful, and deeply connected to the land
At Hervey Bay Kindergarten, Nature Play isn’t a program—it’s a way of being. We believe that children deserve a childhood rich in wonder, freedom, and messy, meaningful play. That’s why our days are filled with sunshine, laughter, and the kind of outdoor adventures that spark lifelong curiosity.
Set on beautiful Butchulla Country, our kindergarten embraces the natural world as both teacher and playground. Children have free access to thoughtfully curated outdoor environments where loose parts, natural materials, and open-ended invitations encourage exploration, creativity, and risk-taking. Whether they’re building cubbies from branches, mixing mud potions, or simply lying in the grass watching clouds drift by, our children are immersed in play that nurtures their bodies, minds, and spirits.
Bush and Beach Kindy—Every Day, All Year
We take Nature Play beyond the fence line with our daily Bush and Beach Kindy programs. These immersive experiences allow children to explore wild spaces, connect deeply with Country, and engage in authentic, child-led play in natural settings. From sandy toes and salt air to forest trails and bird calls, each day offers new invitations to wonder, discover, and grow. These programs foster resilience, creativity, and a profound sense of belonging—not just to place, but to community.
We honour the child’s right to play and trust in their capabilities. Our educators act as co-adventurers—listening, observing, and gently guiding while allowing children to lead their own learning journeys. There are no worksheets or rigid routines here. Instead, we offer time, space, and trust. We know that deep learning happens when children feel safe, seen, and free to follow their instincts.
Nature Play at Hervey Bay Kindergarten is also about connection—to self, to others, and to the land. We embed First Nations perspectives with respect and authenticity, fostering a sense of stewardship and cultural appreciation. Our children learn to care for their environment, their community, and each other.
Play is powerful, and nature is always within reach
“Children need nature for the healthy development of their senses, and therefore, for learning & creativity.” — Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods
